1. The ancient Olympics were always held in Olympia. What sort of place was this and what country was it in? A place in greece, in the northwestern peloponnese.


2. In what year is it thought that the ancient Olympics began and how long ago was this?
In the year 700 BC

3. Why were the Olympic games held?
They were held for a religious festival.


4. Who was Zeus and what are some of the things that were special about his status?
Zeus is the god of all gods, and he has the power to stuck lightning at his opponents.

5. What was 'The Sacred Truce' and why did they have it?
it means that they will go to olympia safely

6. The first Olympics had only one event, what was it?
sprint

7. The pentathlon was different to all the other events, how?
it has 5 different sports

8. Event winners were presented with special wreaths, what else might they expect once they got back home?
winners were given a wreath of leaves.

9. About 50,000 spectators could watch the events. What sort of conditions did they live in and what did everyone enjoy at the end of the Games?
it was hot and it was crowded with a lot of animals.

10. Apart from spectators and athletes what other sorts of people came to Olympia?
traders, entertainers, jugglers and polititions came to olympia.

11. Name the 'nastiest event' and describe what happened in it.
pankration is the nastiest game in the olympics.
